Meet Nerses

Nerses Aposhian and his wife, Kathryn, chose La Cañada Flintridge as the ideal place to raise their young family, drawn by the city's safe neighborhoods, excellent schools, strong community values, and exceptional quality of life. As a father, husband, and homeowner, Nerses is deeply invested in protecting what makes LCF special while helping the city plan responsibly for the future.

Raised in nearby Glendale, Nerses grew up visiting La Cañada Flintridge with his family and has fond memories of spending time at local favorites like Los Gringos Locos, Georgee's Pizza, See's Candies, and Sport Chalet. Today, he is proud to call LCF home and believes the city must stay focused on the fundamentals that make families choose to live, work, and raise their children here.

Nerses currently serves as a Planning Commissioner, bringing a practical, thoughtful, and hands-on approach to public safety, land use, housing, infrastructure, and neighborhood issues. In a short time, he has seen firsthand where La Cañada Flintridge excels and where the city needs to refocus. He believes in leading with common sense, clear priorities, accountability, and respect for the community's character.

Professionally, Nerses is Vice President of Acquisitions at IDS Real Estate Group, where he manages complex investment and development projects, analyzes risk, and works with a wide range of stakeholders. He earned his degree in Political Science and Communication from the University of Southern California (USC) and attended Loyola Law School, giving him a strong foundation in governance, policy, and effective communication.

Nerses also serves as Chairman of the Board at a private Armenian school he attended, where he has helped lead major initiatives focused on enrollment growth, facilities, financial stewardship, teacher support, and long-term planning. His volunteer work reflects his belief that strong communities are built through service, accountability, and people willing to show up.

Outside of work and public service, Nerses enjoys spending time with Kathryn, their daughter Noelle, and their Shiba Inu, Archie. He enjoys playing golf, pickleball, and basketball, going to the Y, building Legos, gardening, cooking, barbecuing for family and friends, and cheering on the Dodgers, Lakers, Trojans, and Patriots.

Nerses is running for City Council to bring accountability, transparency, fiscal discipline, and common-sense leadership to City Hall. He believes in rolling up his sleeves, addressing difficult issues directly, and making decisions grounded in facts, fairness, and listening to residents, while preserving La Cañada Flintridge's character and quality of life.

La Cañada Flintridge Planning Commissioner

Vice President of Acquisitions, IDS Real Estate Group

Chair of the Board, Merdinian School

Our Priorities

Grounded in accountability, safety, and community partnership.

Protecting Public Safety and Quality of Life

Preserve the safe, family-focused character of La Cañada Flintridge by supporting practical policies that keep our neighborhoods strong, prepared, and protected. Fire safety and emergency preparedness must be urgent priorities, especially since our entire city is in a Very High Fire Severity Zone and recent wildfires have made the risks clear. I'm committed to proactive brush clearance, infrastructure hardening, evacuation planning, and stronger coordination with first responders. We also need to keep working closely with the Sheriff's Department to reduce crime and improve public safety. LCF is a wonderful place to live, but we can always do better.

Responsible Planning and Thoughtful Growth

Bring a balanced, common-sense approach to land use and development that respects community character, long-term priorities, and the need for thoughtful housing options. State mandates require cities to plan for more housing, and I support meeting those requirements responsibly. I am pro-housing, including more senior housing options, because the seniors who helped build this town deserve opportunities to stay here, downsize, and remain close to family and community. As a Planning Commissioner, I've worked to balance these priorities while protecting neighborhoods, public safety, local character, transparency, meaningful community input, and local control.

Supporting Strong Schools and Families

Recognize the importance of great schools, strong families, and community institutions in preserving La Cañada Flintridge's quality of life. As a private school board chairman and parent, I understand the challenges of maintaining excellent schools and the importance of supporting the places that bring our community together. I want to work with city staff to raise revenue and reinvest it in our shared facilities with LCUSD, including support for Measure LCF. I will ensure those facilities are well-managed, properly maintained, and serve the entire community. Our schools are one of LCF's greatest strengths, and we can always do better to support them.

Fiscal Responsibility

Approach city decisions with discipline, long-term thinking, and careful stewardship of taxpayer resources. In my professional career, I evaluate major real estate investments, budgets, risks, infrastructure needs, and long-term value every day. As a private school board chairman, I have helped oversee budgets, manage priorities, raise revenue, and reinvest in people, facilities, and programs. That experience matters. City government must be thoughtful about how it spends, where it invests, and how it plans for the future. I will bring a practical, business-minded approach to City Hall focused on accountability, transparency, and results for residents.

Local Businesses and Entrepreneurs

Our local economy needs revitalization. I bring proven commercial real estate experience to help attract businesses that enhance quality of life and strengthen city revenue. We can transform vacant storefronts into thriving enterprises that create jobs, support small businesses, and grow our tax base. We should also support entrepreneurs and residents working from home by creating more local places to meet, work, collaborate, and build their businesses right here in town.

Shared Spaces, Stronger Community

Instead of spending millions of dollars on lawsuits, we should invest in protecting and enhancing our green spaces. These areas make LCF special, and we should preserve them through sustainability, responsible vegetation management, and fire-risk reduction. We also need more community events in our parks that bring families, neighbors, and local organizations together. I will bring accountability, transparency, and results to keep our green spaces safe, beautiful, and resilient for generations.

Transparent, Accountable Leadership

Ensure that city decisions are made with clear justification, responsible communication, and accountability to residents. I will make decisions grounded in facts, fairness, and community input by staying connected to residents, listening to their concerns, and explaining how and why decisions are made. Residents deserve leaders who are accessible, prepared, and willing to earn trust through transparency and follow-through.
